For anyone interested in the 20th. century development of Stratford-upon-Avon, there is little published material on this important ingredient of the town’s history. This book seeks to fill some of that gap with an exploration of the origins, growth and eventual demise of these two companies founded by the brothers Norman and Barney Joseph, and which dominated the Birmingham Road for 70 years. Archive material has been supplemented by family records and personal recollections of former employees and its 224 pages are liberally illustrated.
